Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali (Hon. Minister of Transport)

Sa’idu Ahmed Alkai is Minister of Transportation. Born on February 12, 1969, he hails from Dukku in Gombe State.
He graduated from the University of Maiduguri, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

He worked with the Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, and later joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Alkali was appointed Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in 2003.
In 2007, he was named Commissioner for Information during Muhammad Danjuma Goje’s second term as governor of Gombe State.
He was elected as senator for the Gombe North senatorial district in August 2010 by-election, after the demise of Kawu Peto Dukku, who occupied the position. He was re-elected in the 2011 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In 2007, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He contested and defeated the then incumbent Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, in the 2019 general elections. This obviously was a testament to his popularity among the people.
He served in the sixth, seventh and ninth Assembly, chairing various Senate standing committees.
His attempt to return to the Senate was however stopped by the same man he defeated in 2019, ex-Governor Dankwambo. Dankambo won the election.

Alkali’s contributions to corporate governance and public service have earned him recognition.
He is a distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration, in recognition of his commitment to effective and ethical administration.
He holds the honorary title of Sarkin Gabas Dukku.
