NATIONAL TRUCKS MANUFACTURERS (NTM)

National Trucks Manufacturers (NTM), based in Kano, was originally established in 1975 by the Federal Government of Nigeria through a joint venture agreement with Fiat Iveco of Italy to assemble and manufacture trucks and tractors.

It began full operation of assembling trucks and agricultural tractors in 1980. The company, however, shut down operations in 1987 due to unfavorable economic conditions.

In 2003, the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration privatized it, and 75% of its shares belonging to the Federal Government were sold to Ibrahim Bayero, also from Kano State.

The company is back and producing again, importing most of its products as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) with a reduced duty fee, according to a report by carmart.ng. NTM assembles heavy-duty trucks, light-duty trucks, agricultural tractors, pick-ups, tippers, and motorcycles.
